View of the guard of an up freight train closing the gates at Fosse Road Level Crossing, near Shipston-on-Stour. Note the 'stop blocks' at the bottom and in the middle of the crossing gates on both sides of the track to prevent the gates from swinging too far. Since leaving Longdon Road towards Shipston-on-Stour the line had fallen at 1 in 77 and then 1 in 205 before climbing at 1 in 173 to reach Fosse Road. 2nd July 1953
