Official Great Western Railway Circular from the Goods Department regarding the opening of a Goods Depot at Soho & Winson Green on 24th January 1910

Official Great Western Railway Circular from the Goods Department regarding the opening of a Goods Depot at Soho & Winson Green on 24th January 1910. This depot handled Coal, Mineral, and Station to Station traffic in truck loads. A 15 ton Cart Weighbridge was provided, but no crane, carriage shoot or accommodation for Livestock was provided. All traffic was to continue to be booked to Hockley (Birmingham), but labelled for Soho & Winson Green.

The Goods Depot had been constructed north of Soho & Winson Green station on the site that would later be used for constructing the Warehouse. By 1910 the railway lines from Handsworth & Smethwick station to this point had been quadrupled with work about to start on rebuilding the station and quadrupling the lines on the Hockley side. According to the Railway Clearing House (RCH) Handbook of Railway Stations (1904), Soho & Winson Green station only had facilities for Passengers and Parcel traffic. The later revisions of the RCH Handbook did not show the goods facilities here either, as they were considered to be an extension of those at Hockley.
