GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Tyseley Station: gwrt1046
Ex-GWR 2-6-2T Prairie No 4171 is passing through the down
main running line whilst at the head of the 3.30pm Oxford to Snow Hill local
express service on 30 September 1961. Apparently this particular service was
noted for the variety of locomotives booked to haul this service and No 4171
being a local engine was obviously pressed in to service as it was normally
seen on local passenger services. Built at Swindon works to Lot 369 in October
1949 by British Railways as a continuation of the 51xx class until standard
designs came on stream it remained in service until October 1964 when it was
withdrawn from Leamington Spa shed to be scrapped during January 1965 by J
Cashmore of Great Bridge.
