Close up of image 'gwrt1085' showing the fitter's workbench complete with screen which could accommodate up to nine workmen using vices and other tools. The workshop was well lit by daylight via the large expanse of glass and with gas lighting suspended from the roof trusses. The floor was in all probability made up of wooden blocks and from the cleanliness of the floor and the state of the workbench this photograph was posed for the photographer.
