GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Warwick Station: gwrw386
GWR 4-6-0 29xx Class No 2914 'Saint Augustine' is seen at
the head of a down express service with a Siphon vehicle behind the tender
circa 1930s. Siphon G's were originally milk vans used on the GWR, with many
newly built by BR between 1950-55. Those rebuilt as ambulances during World War
II returned but had a noticeable difference in boarding up of the louvres. BR
used many for its Newspapers services. The Saint Class locomotive, No 2914, was
built by Swindon works in August 1907 and remained in service until January
1946 when it was withdrawn from Weymouth shed to be scrapped shortly afterwards
at Swindon works.
