Built at Swindon works in June 1927 it was first allocated to Old Oak Common shed. Within a few months of being built it was shipped to America in August 1927 to join in Baltimore & Ohio's Centenary celebrations. When withdrawn in December 1962 from Old Oak Common No 6000 had ran 1,910,424 miles in service and was rescued by Bulmer's, the Cider Maker, who preserved her at their Railway centre at Hereford.
