A view looking south showing workmen working on relaying the down platform surface in front of the waiting room and at the foot of the footbridge's steps in 1949. Post-war initially under the auspices of the Great Western Railway, plans were put into place to replace the timber footbridge at West End Platform, and other stations on the line, with pre-cast reinforced concrete footbridges. The surface of the up platform has already been improved by the laying of what appears to be concrete slabs.
