LNER Route: Leicester to Marylebone
Braunston & Willoughby: gcrbw225
Looking north towards Rugby from the London end of Braunston
& Willoughby station's island platform. The large station name board was
formed using oak timber for the framing and board with the lettering being
formed in cast-iron. The above photograph shows the name board painted with
white lettering on a dark background with the framing also being painted white.
In 1897 the station would have been painted in a colour scheme inherited from
the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway and therefore the
background to the station name board would have been black. This was also the
case after the GCR adopted a new colour scheme in 1912 and in LNER days too
although the 1912 GCR colour scheme would have seen the timber framing painted
green.
