Building the last Main Line Railway
Rugby to Barby: gcrcs102
Another view of the steam shovel operating beneath the
bridge carrying Ashlawn Road over the railway. The bucket arm of a steam navvy
is excavating the cutting and illustrates how the cutting was formed around the
completed structure. This photograph would appear to have been taken at the
same time as that seen in image 'gcrcs74'. This
section of the Line (Contract No 4, Rugby to Woodford) was built by T Oliver
& Son.
