Building the last Main Line Railway
Flecknoe, Willoughby and Staverton: gcrcs119
Contractor's temporary tracks snake their way beneath the
three arch brick overbridge near Nethercote. The works are well advanced as is
evident from the dressed cutting. Despite being hastily laid and badly
maintained, these rough tracks were the backbone of the Line's construction,
allowing men, materials and machinery to be ferried back and forth along the
route. T. Oliver & Son was the firm contracted to build this section of the
Railway (Contract No 4, Rugby to Woodford).
