Building the last Main Line Railway

Flecknoe, Willoughby and Staverton: gcrcs119

Contractor's temporary tracks snake their way beneath the three arch brick overbridge near Nethercote

Contractor's temporary tracks snake their way beneath the three arch brick overbridge near Nethercote. The works are well advanced as is evident from the dressed cutting. Despite being hastily laid and badly maintained, these rough tracks were the backbone of the Line's construction, allowing men, materials and machinery to be ferried back and forth along the route. T. Oliver & Son was the firm contracted to build this section of the Railway (Contract No 4, Rugby to Woodford).
