Building the last Main Line Railway
Rugby to Barby: gcrcs139
Looking north towards bridge No 455 which carried Hillmorton
Road over the site of the new station. Built by T Oliver & Son this bridge
would provide passengers with access to the station's 600 ft long island
platform. As can be seen, the main excavation of the line has yet to take
place. On the left are some of the brick arches that were built to support the
main station building which was constructed as an additional part of the
bridge. Note the vertical timber panels being employed as temporary parapets on
the side of the overbridge.
