LNER Route: Leicester to Marylebone
Rugby Central Station: gcrcs203
A British Railways Derby Diesel Multiple Unit is seen
crossing over from the down line to the up line during engineering work in the
early 1960s. The lines had been clipped in order to allow the DMU to travel
'wrong-line' through the engineering work on its way to Marylebone. Andrew
Chilcott writes 'The BR Derby class 115, the majority of which were based at
Marylebone to work the London commuter services of the GC and GC&GWJ. The
high seat backs visible in the saloon as well as the bodyside profile are
diagnostic. One set was used daily for the first Marylebone to Nottingham
Victoria and return diagram following the 1963 re-cast of GC services until the
end.'
