LNER Route: Leicester to Marylebone
Rugby Central Station: gcrcs273
British Railways built Class L1 2-6-4T No 67741 having
arrived from Nottingham is about to take on water before it works the return
trip back to Nottingham Victoria. As this this service terminated at Rugby
Central the train was directed into the down platform ready for the return
working. Having taken on water, No 67741 would run around the coaching stock to
the other end where it would be reattached ready to work back bunker first.
Built in November 1948 by the North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow, No
67741 was to remain in service until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from
40E Colwick shed to be scrapped. On the right, Travis & Arnold timber
merchants have had a number of open wagons delivered, which are stabled on an
adjacent siding, with timber stacked inside.
