Ex-LMS 'Rebuilt Royal Scot' 4-6-0 No 46118 'Royal Welch
Fusilier' stands at Rugby on an up express service in 1962. Built as LMS No
6118, originally with a parallel boiler, in November 1927 by the North British
Locomotive Company of Glasgow, No 46118 was reboilered with a Stanier Type 2A
tapered boiler when the original was life expired which, together with other
modifications, turned the locomotive into one of the UK's most powerful 4-6-0
locomotives. Renumbered by British Railways in February 1949, No 46118 was to
remain in service until June 1964 when it was withdrawn from 12B Upperby shed
in Carlisle to be scrapped.
