Building the last Main Line Railway
Great Central Bridge and Viaduct: gcrcs44
After the bridge was built and the other works either side
of the bridge were complete, the lines would be laid. On a steel structure the
rails would be placed on longitudinal timbers which in turn would be fixed to a
steel girder running in the same direction as can be seen. The railway is now
near ready to receive its first paying passengers as the gang above appear to
be laying timber walkways for use by the permanent way men. C1906
