LNER Route: Leicester to Marylebone
Rugby Central Station: gcrcs6a
Close up of image 'gcrcs6' showing Rugby Station Signal
Cabin located at the London end of the down side of the station. The signal box
controlled both the running lines passing through the station as well as the
goods yard seen behind the signal box. The goods sheds and crane can be seen in
the background together with an unknown locomotive shunting in the yard. The
goods yard's facilities were much more modest in comparison to the LNWR's
extensive goods yards situated about a mile away. This reflected not just the
late arrival of the Great Central Railway to the town, a near sixty year
disadvantage compared to both the LNWR and MR, but also the fewer towns and
cities connected by the Great Central.
