Building the last Main Line Railway
Catesby Tunnel and Viaduct: gcrcs81
Looking along the contractor's temporary track towards the
northern end of Catesby tunnel. The cutting still requires to be widened to
accommodate two sets of tracks whilst the embankment on both sides of the
cutting will need dressing back. On the left the embankment appears to be
covered in bricks which would indicate that this was the point that the
contractor transferred the bricks into this part of the tunnel. The point work
on the contractor's temporary track was very primitive and would be moved by
the use of a 'crowbar' rather than levers.
