LNER Route: Leicester to Marylebone

Looking eastwards along the A425 Warwick to Daventry road towards Staverton as a clean ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 45417 sweeps southward past Staverton Road Cabin. At the time the photograph was taken the locomotive's home shed was Cricklewood. The signal cabin was quite remote, even the little village of Staverton was 1½ miles distant. It was not unknown for the early morning down 'newspaper train' to make an unscheduled stop here for a footplate crewman to drop off a newspaper and some milk to the waiting signalman.
