LNER 4-6-0 Class B17/4 No 2871 'Manchester City' races along at the head of a down express service circa 1946. Built by Robert Stephenson & Company in June 1937 it was rebuilt by Thompson as a Class B2 locomotive and renamed 'Royal Sovereign'. As a Class B2 No 1671 acquired its British Railways No 61671 post 1948 which it retained until its withdrawal from 31A Cambridge shed in September 1958.
