LNER 4-6-0 Class B7 No 5484 works hard at the head of a down express shortly before World War Two. Built at Gorton Works in March 1924 it was originally allocated a number, No 484, in the Great Central series which the LNER changed to No 5484, by adding 5000 to the series of Great Central numbers. In 1946 it received a new number, No 1397, as part of the LNER's renumbering scheme and this would have changed to No 61397 if the locomotive had not been withdrawn from service in July 1948 from Darnall shed in Sheffield.
