GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction

GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line

Bearley Junction: gwrbj785

Bearley East Junction Signal Box, a McKenzie & Holland Type 3 design built in 1876, for the GWR

Bearley East Junction Signal Box is the same box as depicted in ‘gwrbj437’, ‘gwrb440' and 'gwrb440a'. It had a 31 lever frame installed in 1907 when the North Warwickshire line opened, but the box structure predated this. It appears to be a McKenzie & Holland Type 3 design probably dating from 1876 when the Alcester branch was opened (Earlier McK&H designs did not have a gabled roof). The signals in the foreground control the Junction for the North Curve to the Alcester Branch line. Note the lower distance signal arm is fixed. Two sidings for the Air Ministry College were added on ground behind the Signal Box in November 1942. After the war they were used to store crippled and surplus wagons as shown in this view taken in 1956.
