GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line

Henley in Arden - Original Station: gwrha1400a

Close up of image 'gwrha1400' showing the two sidings and the typical array of vans and five-plank wagons used to transport primarily coal to Henley-in-Arden throughout its working life. The brick built building behind the covered wagon was the stable seen in image 'gwrha1382'. The design indicates that it could provide accommodation for two horses. In the foreground on the right next to the wagon with the open door are a pile of coal sacks. The coal merchant would load each bag with one hundred weight of coal using portable scales. Whilst the bags do not appear too large, anyone old enough to remember steam locomotives will certainly remember the coalman with back stooped under the weight of one of these sacks.
