GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line

Henley in Arden - New Station: gwrha1406

View of the up platform water crane serving both the up and bay lines and which was located at the Birmingham end of the platform

View of the down platform water crane which was located at the Stratford end of this platform. The photograph is pure steam in atmosphere. On the left can be seen one of the station's gas lampposts shortly before being converted to electrical power and behind this hanging over the carriage dock siding is a loading gauge which was used to check that any open wagons loaded with goods that projected upwards did not foul the line. Whilst on the right the leather 'bag' or water hose from the end of water crane's arm is secured so that it drips into a funnel. To its left is a brazier or 'fire devil' used during the winter months to stop the pipes from freezing. For additional information on water cranes see 'misc_equip193'.
