Viewed from All Saints Road bridge this official photograph shows the Hockley Goods Outwards and Transfer Shed in the background with the stables building on the right. In the foreground on the left, in front of the Power Station and Pump Turbine Hall, is the brick base of Water Tank No 3 which had a capacity of 30,000 gallons. This substantial structure was demolished in 1938 to allow for the reconstruction of the Goods Yard (see 'gwrhd686') and the 31 foot long by 21 foot wide water tank which surmounted this brick base has already been removed in this photograph. By this time many of the machines in Hockley Goods Yard had been converted from hydraulic power to operate by electric motors, so the number of water tanks could be reduced. For more details of the water system at Hockley see 'gwrhd3891'
