Building the last Main Line Railway
Rugby to Barby: gcrcs1c
Close up of image 'gcrcs1' showing the steel road bridge
work and the work being undertaken behind the steam navvy. The steel bridge is
believed to be the road bridge carrying Hillmorton Road over the site of what
became the Great Central's Rugby station. Careful study of the full sized
photograph shows a building to the right of this bridge which has a roof,
window openings and chimneys all similar to the building seen on the right in
image 'gcrcs21'. The steam shovel is therefore
excavating Rugby Station's goods yard.
