When Peter photographed the locomotive it was on the books of 8C Speke Junction. Classmate No 48288 was another Beyer Peacock Ld product built for the War Department and was initially numvered WD No 70403 when it entered traffic in August 1940. It was renumbered by British Railways as 48288 in August 1949 which it retained until February 1967 when it was withdrawn from service.
