Avon Bridge Power Station: misc_abps172
A photograph and diagram showing a similar rotary tipper
discharging slack coal at another location. This has been included to show how
this rotary tipper equipment worked. Wagons would be shunted into the cradle
where they were secured to keep them on the track during the tipping operation.
The cradle and track would then be slowly rotated to discharge its load into a
large underground hopper from where the material could be fed in a control
manner by the Jigger feed at the bottom of the hopper on to a coal hoist or
conveyor system. Once the wagon was emptied the cradle would be restored to its
normal upright position, allowing the securing apparatus to be removed from the
empty wagon, which could then be shunted out of the cradle and replaced with
the next full one.
