Joseph Wright & Sons: misc_indust358
In 1856 Joseph Wright & Sons built several standard
gauge (4 8½) four wheel coaches for the West Midland
Railway. When the West Midland Railway amalgamated with the Great Western
Railway on 1st August 1863 it owned two hundred and eighteen passenger coaches.
West Midland Railway Composite coach No 134, became Great Western Railway No
214 in 1863. The photograph shows it in Great Western Railway livery after it
was demoted to a third class coach in 1873 and renumbered No 742. The coach has
the original class designations on the compartment doors.
