Joseph Wright & Sons: misc_indust360
Joseph Wright & Sons built several standard gauge
(4 8½) four wheel coaches for the Shrewsbury & Chester
Railway in 1846. The Shrewsbury& Chester Railway became part of the Great
Western Railway on 1st September 1854 and their stock of 108 passenger vehicles
including carriage trucks and horse boxes were transferred. This first class
coach became a Great Western Railway Pilot van No 22. The stage coach influence
can be seen in the design and the rails on the roof were for the storage of
luggage. This coach was withdrawn in August 1874.
