Grimes Hill & Wythall Platform
Initially named Grimes Hill Halt when first opened to
passengers on 1st June 1908 when the North Warwickshire Railway first became
operational to passenger traffic, it was later renamed Grimes Hill &
Wythall Halt on 12th July 1914 and then again on 11th July 1927, when
this time it was renamed Grimes Hill & Wythall Platform. This
appears to have coincided with an upgrade in the facilities available at the
Platform as improvements were authorised on 26th January 1928 including
extension of up side waiting room, new ladies waiting room, new lavatory
accommodation and paraffin vapor lighting to replace the oil lamps. The suffix
was dropped on the 9th of July 1934 and it finally became Wythall on 6th May
1974. Information in the 1929 Railway Clearing House (RCH) Station Handbook
indicates the Platform has started to handle Parcel Traffic, which infers the
station was manned at least from this point onwards as the 1956 RCH Handbook
also has an identical entry. The station had no goods facilities with only
limited access being available for passengers via a footpath on either side of
the road bridge from the Norton Lane.
