Lea Hall Station

LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Lea Hall was opened by the LMS on 1st May 1939 and was to be the second station opened by the company on the Birmingham to Coventry section of the line to London. It was a simple two platform station with no goods facilities and was constructed in concrete influenced by the 1930s functional style of architecture. The station was provided to accommodate the commuter traffic that resulted from the development of new housing estates on the Eastern outskirts of Birmingham. The original platform structures were fully fronted with doors, windows and brick in-filling but sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s these were removed because of the level of vandalism. The LMS provided a service of thirteen to fifteen trains each way. The station was built with the proposed quadrupling in mind and would have accommodated the additional tracks either side of the existing platforms.
