LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth
Atherstone Station: lnwr_ath1069a
Close up of image 'lnwr_ath1069' showing the original 1847
Trent Valley Railway station building and platform complete with Livock's
platform canopy. This design and configuration, a narrow platform covered by a
canopy supported by cast iron columns placed at near to the platform edge with
short intervals between each column, was also to be found at Nuneaton as seen
in image 'lnwrns1660'. The spacing and proximity
of the columns to the edge of the platform was a hindrance in boarding or
alighting from trains. Subsequent regulations required any columns to be placed
a minimum six feet from the platform edge.
