LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth

LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6109 'Royal Engineer' is seen at the head of the fourteen coach up 'Manxman' near Atherstone in May 1928. Built the previous September in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company, No 6109 is seen in original condition with Fowler tender but no smoke deflectors. Subsequently No 6109 received a Stanier tender and smoke deflectors whilst in its original parallel boiler form. It was then later rebuilt in the 1940s with a tapered boiler before being withdrawn in December 1962 from Holbeck shed in Leeds to be scrapped during December 1963 at Crewe works.
