The signal box on the right would control both access to the sidings and a section - or block - of the Trent Valley line. The notes to the layout state that 263 yards of track are on LNWR land and maintained by the LNWR whilst 781 yards of track are also on LNWR property but maintained by Baddesley Colliery. The track maintained by the LNWR are the crossings required to connect the Trent Valley line with the colliery sidings as indicated by the darker outlines.
