LMS Route: Trent Valley Line

LMS 4-6-2 Coronation class No 6224 'Princess Alexandria', now with streamlining removed, is seen on an up express passing Brinklow station on 3rd July 1948. Immediately after the streamlining was removed the sloping top to the smokebox indicates that this, together with the open running plate in front of the cylinders, was an ex-streamlined locomotive. Later when the boiler required maintenance the smokebox was replaced with a fully circular smokebox, the same on the original non-streamlined locomotives. To many train spotters of the day a locomotive in this condition was called a 'Semi' indicating that it was not fully restored to non-streamlined condition.
