LMS 4-6-2 Princess Coronation class No 6220 'Coronation' is
seen with streamlining removed at the head of an up express in July 1947. The
top of the smoke box still retains the forward slope to accommodate the the
streamlined front. Former streamlined locomotives ran in this condition until
their smokeboxes required to be renewed. In this state such locomotives were
often referred to by the nickname 'Semi' meaning semi-streamlined. Built at
Crewe works in June 1937 No 6220 ran in service until April 1963 when it became
the first of the class to be retired being withdrawn from Upperby shed in
Carlisle to be scrapped in May 1963 by Crewe works.
