Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 'Super D' No 9345 passes through Handsworth Park at the head of a train of mineral wagons

Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 'Super D' No 9345 passes through Handsworth Park at the head of a train of mineral wagons on 14th May 1949. Built as LNWR No 1889, a Class B four cylinder compound locomotive, by Crewe works in September 1901, No 9345 was subject to further modifications during her working life. First as an E Class locomotive in August 1906, then as a G1 Class locomotive in June 1920 before being rebuilt as a G2A locomotive in March 1942. Its seen above with medium sized numbers on the cabside, an LMS cab roof and lamp irons, Belpaire firebox with Ross pop safety valves which it retained until January 1958 when it was withdrawn from service to be scrapped.
