LMS 5XP Patriot class No 5513, one of seven class members
not named, is seen picking up water as it works a down express in August 1937.
Built at Crewe works in September 1932, No 5513 was in 1943 proposed to carry
the name of Sir William Stanier, the then Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LMS
seconded to the War Department, but as with the other six unnamed classmates
the names were allocated but never carried. Notionally a rebuild of a LNWR
4-6-0 Claughton class locomotive, No 5513 remained in service until September
1962 when she was withdrawn from Edge Hill shed in Liverpool to be scrapped in
October 1962 by Crewe works after a period of stored at Preston shed from
December 1961.
