The train number '23A' was used to describe the type of service and its route although the writer cannot recall seeing it or any other similar sign on this route. Built at Derby circa 1920 No 3924 lasted in service until it was withdrawn from Barrow Road shed in Bristol in June 1965 where it escaped the scrapman's torch to be preserved at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
