LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington
Old Milverton Lineside Views: lnwr_oldmil1449
LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 8111 is seen piloting an unidentified
ex-LNWR 'Coal Engine' on an eight-coach local passenger service to Coventry
circa 1938. The length of train would not normally have warranted the
additional power of an 8F freight locomotive so it is more than probable that
it has been coupled to the LNWR 0-6-0 to save 'control' from having to find an
extra path on the route. The 8F is probably returning to Nuneaton having
brought a coal train to Leamington. Its easy to forget today that the North
Warwickshire coal fields were once a prodigious source of revenue for the line
with their coal being sent to the south both via LMS metals and via the GWR
line from Leamington.
