LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth
Polesworth Station: lnwr_pol1212
Looking towards Tamworth showing the post-1909 configuration
of the layout of Polesworth station with the signal box in the centre. This
view clearly shows the ex-LNWR passenger footbridge in its complete form with
sheeted half-height sides and covered walkway and staircases. To the left and
in front of the porters barrow crossing is a ground signal, a disk shaped
device that repeated an adjacent, but some distance away, semaphore signal.
This was invaluable to locomotive drivers during bad weather or night time
manoeuvres and in this case was probably used when reversing from the down slow
in to the refuge siding - the points of which can just be seen on the left.
