A panoramic view looking northwards from the road bridge towards Tamworth with the original station building on the left. Part of the relocated goods yard can be seen situated adjacent to the station and on which is a mobile crane. Whether this was resident at Polesworth or just photographed when located for a specific job is unknown. However the 1938 Handbook of Railway Stations does state that there was a one-ton crane located at Polesworth so this might be the crane in question. Normally a fixed position manually operated crane was to be found in stations which required craneage for goods in or out. Some locations did not have the traffic to justify the capital outlay so a mobile crane would be brought in by rail. The mobile crane seen above happens to be positioned as if it has been off-loaded directly from the dock seen immediately in front of it.
