LNWR 4-4-0 No 2164 'Oberon' pilots LNWR 4-6-0 No 2427 Duke of Connaught' are seen heading the up 'Liverpool' express near Shilton

LNWR 4-4-0 No 2164 'Oberon' pilots LNWR 4-6-0 No 2427 Duke of Connaught' are seen heading the up 'Liverpool' express near Shilton circa 1919-22. Built at Crewe works in April 1904 No 2164 was a member of the Precursor class and having been renumbered by the LMS as No 5277 in November 1927 remained in service until February 1941 when it was withdrawn from service to be scrapped at Crewe works. Claughton class No 2427 was built at Crewe works in June 1917 and was renumbered by the LMS as No 5946 in May 1927. On 13th March 1935 No 5946 was involved in a an accident when it failed at the head of a Meat train only to be hit in the rear by a Milk train headed by LMS Compound 4-4-0 No 1165.
