View of the up island platform and the platform erected on
the slow up goods line to accommodate the transfer of milk churns. The erection
of this short platform eliminated the need for staff to cross the up loop line.
This arrangement however could only serve trains using the loop line whereas
trains stopping at Shilton's main up platform still required the churns to be
placed on the island platform. Beneath the station sign are a number of milk
churns to be collected by trains calling at the main up platform and which
would have been carried in the guards compartments on local passenger services.
On the left is part of bracket signal which have been made more visible by the
use of white paint on the station building.
