LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth

Ex-LNWR 7F 0-8-0 G2a class No 9278 is seen on the fast line at the head of an express mixed goods train approaching Tamworth in August 1929. Built at Crewe in May 1901 No 9278 was subject to modifications to its boiler and by superheated before it was it became a G2a class locomotive in which form it remained until it was withdrawn from service in October 1959 from Bescot shed to be scrapped by Crewe works in November 1959.
