LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth
Tamworth High Level Station: mrthl4122
Close up of image 'lnwr_tam4122' showing the rear of the Up
platform of the Midland Railway's station, now known as Tamworth High Level
after being taken over by the LMS in 1923 some five years previous to this
photograph being taken. Things of interest and rarely mentioned is the
turntable at the rear of the Midland Signal Box. Transfer between the two
railways obviously made full use of the sidings seen to the rear of the ex-LNWR
station's Up platform on which an open wagon, two tank wagons, a cattle wagon
and a brakevan are stabled. On the curve on the left (the West Chord) a
Platelayers' hut can be seen opposite what appears to be storage bins, some
might be sand others coal.
