LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth

Ex-LNWR 5XP 4-6-0 Claughton class No 5985 is seen at the
head of an up express to Euston north of Rugby circa 1930. Built as LNWR No 808
by Crewe works in April 1920 it gained its LMS number in May 1927 and remained
in service until July 1932 when it was withdrawn - as one of the many Claughton
class locomotives to be 'rebuilt' as part of the LMS' new Patriot class - to
emerge from Crewe works as LMS 4-6-0 Patriot class No 5503 'The Leicestershire
Regiment'.
