Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Rebuilt Patriot Class No 45536 'Private W Wood VC' is seen on an up express service near Tamworth. Built as LMS No 5536 and with a parallel boiler by Crewe works in May 1933, No 45536 was reboilered with a 2A tapered boiler in November 1948. In many respects the rebuilt Patriot Class locomotives were the same as the slightly larger rebuilt Royal Scot Class, the principal mechanical difference being the Patriot retained its slightly smaller cylinders and visually, the Patriot lost its Fowler cab being given a Stanier cab modelled on his Jubilee and Black Five classes. The Rebuilt Patriot also gained its British Railways number in November 1948 and remained in service until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from 41A Darnall shed in Sheffield.
