An array of locomotives including ex-LMS Nos 45545, 42964, 44838, 45186, 45048 together with British Railways Standard Class 5 No 75034 seen on Sunday 30th June 1963. At its peak, in British Railways days, Aston shed's allocation was up to sixty locomotives, over fifteen of which were class '5' 4-6-0s. There were also approximately ten Stanier 2-6-0s (Moguls), a number of 2-6-4Ts, Horwich 2-6-0s (Crabs), as well as a variety of ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 and ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotives. Diesel shunters were also based at Aston from an early date and a repair shop was built at the rear of the shed to support them.
