In the platform on the left are several open wagons which would have carried the ballast or other materials. Also on the left adjacent to the bridge is a lit brazier which probably was used to heat up pitch to seal the join between the steel bridge and the brick abutments. To the right of the man holding the bar acting as a lever is a red flag located on a temporary buffer.
